Call out for artists to enter the iconic annual Molly Morpeth Canaday Award - Painting & Drawing 2023.

Entries will be encouraged from artists throughout Aotearoa New Zealand that challenge and shape painting and drawing as a contemporary artform.

Artists will be able to submit their artwork from 9am Monday July 4th 2022, with entries closing 5pm Sunday November 6th 2022.

The preliminary judging panel are Susannna Shadbolt (CEO Te Manawa Museums Trust , Te Papaioea Palmerston North), Leafā Wilson (Creative Waikato Cultural Activator, Sth. Waikato) and winner of the MMCA Painting & Drawing 2021, Hannah Ireland. Kelcy Taratoa (M.MVA), artist and educator will be tasked with selecting the finalists and winners in a two-part blind judging process.

Not only is over $20,000 of prize money up for grabs, but the distinction of being a finalist in this prestigious award will no doubt attract the best creative talent in Aotearoa New Zealand.

The MMCA is held annually at Te Kōputu a te Whanga a Toi – Whakatāne Library and Exhibition Centre and presented by Arts Whakatāne and Whakatāne District Council.

The Molly Morpeth Canaday Whakatāne Fund is the primary award sponsor.
